Why are some products showing on Amazon as cheaper than the website?Updated a year ago
Amazon currently is able to operate at a loss on new products in order to undercut the market and win a majority share, with their ultimate goal to being the only place anyone shops. DASH Water is a young business and we aren't able to aggressively subsidise our pricing in the same way, as we are a proud B Corp.
To give a top line summary on Amazon pricing:
- Our individual flavours (12 cans) prices are set to £15.99 on Amazon, equal to our One-Time Purchase price on the website.
- But Amazon's algorithm is able to crawl other retailer's where we sell our products (Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Ocado) and if they have our product on a promotion, Amazon aggressively undercut them on price in order to encourage shoppers to shop with them rather than their competitors.
- This technology is inconsistent and flawed, but it means that Amazon's prices are constantly changing and as a business we unfortunately have no control over this.
To combat this:
- We have increased our subscription discount to 20% (plus free delivery), which means that the website is the best price on the majority of individual flavours at any one time.
- We offer bigger pack formats than amazon, at a better price per can (0.99p per can for 48 cans where you can personalise your own box, and 0.95p per can for 96 cans).
- We offer subsidised delivery fees if customers purchase 4 cases or more on a One-Time basis, this is to encourage customers to make the most of the best pricing we offer but also to further reduce our carbon footprint on delivery by getting more cans delivered, less often.
- We offer first time order promotions for all customers.
- We offer repeat order promotions to customers during our brand campaigns.
- We have introduced a loyalty scheme whereby you can earn points on every purchase you make - meaning you can get money off future orders.
- We have introduced a referral scheme to give introductory offers to your friends, and you can earn points to spend on your next purchase too.
- DASH Water is now officially a Carbon Neutral Business, this cannot be said for Amazon.
- We are in conversations with an Eco Delivery Service (Electric Vehicles only) to further increase our sustainability this year.
And we are constantly looking at ways to improve our direct proposition.
